pilgrim's shell (plural pilgrim's shells or pilgrims' shells)

1. A scallop or cockleshell used as a sign that one had visited the Holy Land or representing the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) pilgrimage in Spain, especially of species Pecten jacobaeus or P. maximus.
