For the sake of this NG [newsgroup] I assume that "boy" is referring to young males from about 16 on down to 8 or 9 or so and that anything younger is "infants", "babies" and the like. Any over 16 or thereabouts are young men. But for the general public and all the "pedophile-phobes" that are so much in evidence nowadays, the "boy" in boy-lover refers to the entire male agegroup from birth to the federal age of consent cutoff point of eighteen years of age.
    • 2000 August 13, Pogo Possum, Ph.D., “APA [American Psychological Association] Rant”, in alt.radio.talk.dr-laura[2] (Usenet), archived from the original on 29 September 2025:
Nowhere is it made clear what the speaker meant by "doubtful thoughts" but the article's author excerpts that phrase, reports it out of context, and interprets it to mean that the father thought it was OK to have sex with the young girl. Further evidence for this interpretation is provided by the phrase "pedophile phobes"[sic] used in the program -- the article says it says "Don't worry pedophile-phobes, this movie is no Lolita." As anyone who has seen the movie knows, the father ultimately recognizes the wrongness of his attraction to the teen and does not have sex with her, despite his fantasies which are largely related to the poverty of his life.

      >>Blaming individual religions or sects simply hides the problem.
      >>The solution is :
      >>1. better screening for pedophiles
      >>2. education of non-pedophiles to monitor and report incidents to the police
      >>3. close monitoring of children
      >>4. providing safe and confidential and effective reporting systems to children.
      > Are you a paedophobeŽ?[sic]
