otax
English
Proper noun
otax
- (Internet, Internet slang, cybersecurity) A hoax or apocryphal Discord exploit popularized by Larpercore groups (specifically "Hells Angels"), claimed to be a zero-day capable of account-stealing or IP-grabbing via a simple friend request.
- 2021 July 10, Urban Dictionary[1]:
- Otax: An exploit created in 2016... it manipulates discord into giving you the token of anyone who accepts or denies a friend request.
- (Can we date this quote?), Aesthetics Wiki[2], archived from the original on 6 June 2025:
- Otax/Otaxxing: A hypothetical exploit tool... It never actually existed and was used as a scare tactic in 2020.
Usage notes
While various GitHub repositories exist under the name, they are generally recognized as "skid" (script kiddie) tools. In the edgesphere, the term is primarily used for otaxxing—the act of threatening victims with the non-existent exploit to induce panic or coerce compliance.
