oppo taco

English

Etymology

So called because a right-handed batter would be normally expected to swing to the left, and vice versa. A hit rightwards by a right-handed batter would be the opposite of this.

The second element taco seems to have arisen to maintain assonance in the expression; both elements have the vowel sequence /ɑ oʊ/ in American English dialects with the father-bother merger.
