Originally a Tumbuka-Ngoni word This term was widely used to refer to Hastings Banda, and has since sometimes become considered a title of the President of Malawi in other languages of Malawi including Chichewa. Given the cultural dominance of Chichewa, the Tumbuka origins of the words have been obscured.
