nghị viện

Sino-Vietnamese word from 議院, composed of 議 (“to discuss”) and 院 (“chamber”), from Japanese 議院 (giin, “legislative chamber”). The Japanese etymon is used of the upper and lower houses of a bicameral legislature, particularly those of the Diet, while 議会 (gikai) is used for the whole legislature itself.
