From Middle Cornish molhouez, from Proto-Brythonic *melw- (“soft”), from Proto-Celtic *meldo- (“pleasant, mild”), *mlido (“soft”), from Proto-Indo-European *ml̥dus (“soft, weak”). Cognate with Breton melc'hwed and Welsh malwod. Related to Breton melw (“snot”).
