leechline (plural leechlines)

  1. (nautical) A line attached to the leech ropes of sails, passing up through blocks on the yards, to haul the leeches by.
    • 1923, Charles Boardman Hawes, The Dark Frigate, Chapter 8:
      “Cast off the topsail sheets, clew garnets, leechlines and buntlines!” The order came thinly through the roar of the wind.
