Usage notes

Takes the person reproached, accused, or challenged as the object of ar and the thing that they are reproached for, accused of, or challenged with as the direct object:

D’iomardaigh sé an chaint sin ar a iníon.
He reproached his daughter for what she said.
(literally, “He reproached that speech on his daughter.”)

In the sense “expostulate with” the person expostulated with is the direct bject:

D’iomardaigh mé mo mháthair.
I expostulated with my mother.
