Compare Ahtna betlʼes, Chipewyan hatłʼés, Tsuut'ina gútłʼìs, Lower Tanana tl'esr. Young & Morgan (1992) identify it as potentially being from the verbal root -TŁʼIIZH (“to be blue, green”),[1] although Kari (2024) views them as different, claiming the root is from Proto-Athabaskan *tɬʼətsʼ, while the noun is from *tɬʼəshʳ.[2]
