By surface analysis, hallar +‎ -azgo. Inherited from Old Spanish falladgo (13th c.), maybe from an unattested Vulgar Latin *afflāticum, from Latin afflō. Cognate with Galician and Portuguese achádego, Leonese chalga and Asturian ayalga.
