ghašíi

Palula

Etymology

Unknown. Whereas Turner tentatively derives the term from Sanskrit घर्ष॑ति (ghárṣati, to rub), this is phonologically implausible (-š-) and a phonologically and semantically better-fitting descendant Palula ghaṣíi (to grind, crush) exists. The e-ending conjugation also suggests a causative (class 10) verb.
