Inherited from Ottoman Turkish فقیر فقرا (fakir fukara), from Classical Persian فقیر فقرا (faqīr-fuqarā, “the poor”), from Arabic فَقِير (faqīr) and its plural فُقَرَاء (fuqarāʔ). Cognate with Azerbaijani fağır-füqəra.
