Cognate with West Frisian inkel (single), Middle Low German enkel, enkelt (simple, single), German Low German enkelt (sole, single, only, lone), Gothic 𐌰𐌹𐌽𐌰𐌺𐌻𐍃 (ainakls, lone, solitary, desolate).
