Usage notes

This word is found everywhere in the Batavian-speaking area. In general, this word is used to refer to both the younger brother and sister of someone's parents. However, in Pebayuran dialect, when mamang is used to refer to the younger brother of someone's mother, encing is used to refer to its female counterpart (the wife of mamang).

The shortened forms ncing and cing are used when followed by a name or other designation and as the vocative forms, for example: Cing Munah rather than Encing Munah.
