    From Proto-Greater Central Philippine *buhay (“live (long)”) (cf. Masbatenyo buhay, Hanunoo buhay, Central Bikol buhay, and Buhi'non Bikol, Libon Bikol, East Miraya Bikol buway), possibly related to Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *bihaʀ (compare Sambali biyay, Kapampangan bie, and Ivatan vyay). See also bihag. Compare also Cebuano buhi, Hiligaynon buhi, Agusan Manobo buhi, Ata Manobo bui, and Tausug buhi' which came from Proto-Southern Philippine *buhiʔ (“live”).
