blue boxing (plural blue boxings)

  1. An early 1970s phreaking technique involving electronic devices, famously built by Steve Wozniak and marketed by Steve Jobs, that simulated the 2600Hz tone used by telephone operators, allowing users to seize control of trunk lines, bypassing billing systems to make free, long-distance, or international calls.
