Borrowed from Late Latin poplexia, apoplexia, from Ancient Greek ἀποπληξίᾱ (apoplēxíā), from ἀποπλήσσω (apoplḗssō) to cripple by a stroke; ἀπο- (apo-, “from”) + πλήσσω (plḗssō, “to strike”).
