Though this word has no standardized spelling – as it is not attested in any major dictionary – anarco-punk is the most common spelling. The Vocabulário Ortográfico Português [Portuguese Orthographic Vocabulary], published in Portugal, hyphenates prefixes before orthographically unadapted borrowings, implicitly prescribing anarco-punk. However, a broad application of prefix hyphenation rules following the Portuguese-Language Orthographic Agreement of 1990 leads to the spelling anarcopunk, as hyphens between prefix-final vowels and stem-initial consonants are not allowed.
