Inherited from Medieval Tashelhit امُشَّ, امُشّ (amušša, amušš, “cat, tomcat”), from Proto-Berber [Term?] (“cat”), possibly an active participle of Proto-Berber *ăččəʔ (“to eat”), compare with Medieval Tashelhit امشغرداين (amecɣerdayen, “a species of snakes, (lit.mice eater)”), and Latin mūriceps (“cat”).
