Etymology

Borrowed from Spanish alfonsino (“Alfonsine”), in honor of Alfonso XIII, king of Spain from 1886–1931. The haircut was also known as the “Amadeo cut” or the “Aguinaldo cut”, after Amadeo I of Spain, king of Spain from 1871–1873, and Emilio Aguinaldo, first president of the Philippines, respectively.
