Derivation from *sāŕ(ï)- (“to become white, yellow”)[1] +‎ *-g. Oghur, Khalaj and Turkmen forms point to -/ā/-.

Compared to Proto-Mongolic *sïra (“yellow”) (Mongolian шар (šar, “yellow”)) and Proto-Japonic *siro (“white”) by Altaicists.[2]
