Proto-Tupi-Guarani

Etymology

Uncertain. Schleicher and Nikulin seem to agree on *kʷar (sun) +‎ *t͡ʃɨ (mother),[1] although Nikulin reconstructs the last element as -atsy.[2] Mello goes the inverse way, showing descendants of *kʷar as apocopations of the longer form.[3]

    Noun

    *kʷarat͡ʃɨ[3]

    1. sun
      Synonym: *kʷar
