    From *vǫsъ < *vǫdsъ, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *wándsa (whence Old Prussian wanso (“first beard”)), from Proto-Indo-European *wondʰsom, s-expansion of root *wendʰ- (“hair, wool, beard”).
