The Tangut word is suspected by Jacques (2014) of being a borrowing from Tibetan due to it being isolated within rGyalrongic and an irregular correspondence in its rhyme.[1] Hill's review of Jacques (2014) disputes this theory and supposes instead the Tangut rhyme came from an alternative rhyme *-ek that also appears in the Burmese descendant.[2]
