From Proto-Scythian *J̌īwaki, from Proto-Iranian *J̌íHwakah, from *ǰiHwáh (“living, alive”) + *-akah. Cognate with Old Persian *Jīvakah, Sanskrit जीवक (jīvaka).[1]
