Etymology
Possibly from Proto-Finno-Permic *jenše, whence also Erzya инже (inže, “guest”) and Moksha [script needed] (inži, “guest”), with + *-ma (as a diminutive?) + *-inën.
The root has also been compared with Proto-Indo-European *ǵn̥h₁-, with *imeh and with *ilma, and more of the word with a reconstructed Baltic participle form *inžinmī (compare Lithuanian įžymi̇̀).
