Etymology

From Proto-Celtic *dexsouyā, feminine of *dexsouyos, presumably in association with *llọβ̃ (“hand”), probably remodeled from *dexswos after antonym *(as)souyos (“left”), from Proto-Indo-European *deḱs-(i)-yo-s, from *deḱs- (“right (side)”).[1] Cognate with Old Irish dess.
