From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *rV-ŋil. Compare Japhug tɯ-rni (“gums”) and Chinese 齦 / 龈 (“gums”).

  • Bodt is intrigued by the lack of palatalization outside of Tibetic; he supposes that the indefinite possessor prefix *tV- may have blocked palatalization.[1]
