    An adjectival formation, probably from a conflation of the o-grade *dʰowgʰ- of Proto-Indo-European *dʰewgʰ- (“to produce”) with another root of unclear origin.[1][2] Formally, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰowgʰ-yo-s; see *-yós.
