Proto-Athabaskan

Etymology

From *ɬu̓ˑχ (whitefish) +‎ *-eˑ. There are several reconstructed Proto-Athabaskan suffixes with this form: one forming areal nouns, one forming kinship terms, and one with a negative meaning. *ɬuˑχ is cognate with Tlingit tɬuˑχ (whitefish), suggesting a Proto-Na-Dene origin.

Noun

*ɬuˑqʼeˑ

  1. fish, salmon
