    Cognate with Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾlwk' /⁠ālūg⁠/, plum, prune) (whence Classical Persian آلُو (ālū)) and Ottoman Turkish اریك (erik, erük). Nuristani cognates include Ashkun arū́, Katë aŕū̃, and Waigali ā́rū̃, and Dardic cognates include Dameli âru, Pashayi arū́, Shumashti [script needed] (arū́), Gawar-Bati [script needed] (hā́rū), Kalasha ā́ru, Torwali [script needed] (ā), and Palula óoru. Ultimately a Wanderwort of unknown origin.
