𑀢𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀟

Prakrit

Etymology

Some Northwestern descendants have initial tr-, so Turner reconstructs older *𑀢𑁆𑀭𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀟 (*triḍḍa) or *𑀢𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀟 (*tiḍḍa). Probably related to lexicographic later Sanskrit झिज्झी (jhijjhī), झिञ्झी (jhiñjhī), झला (jhalā), झाला (jhālā), झल्लीका (jhallīkā), झिल्लिका (jhillikā), झिरिका (jhirikā), चिल्लका (cillakā), चिल्लिका (cillikā) and many more terms as well as Prakrit 𑀛𑀺𑀁𑀕𑀺𑀭 (jhiṃgira).[1] Probably ultimately of Munda origin, like Proto-Munda *ɟidi or *didi.[2] Besides Gujarati તીડ (tīḍ), no descendants are neuter.
