From Latin globus (“globe, sphere”) + Ancient Greek θᾰ́λᾰμος (thắlămos, “inner room”) + -ea. Coined by researcher and protozoologist Jan Pawłowski, Swiss protozoologist Maria Holzmann and Polish zoologist Jarosław Tyszka in 2013.
