Etymology

    Sino-Vietnamese word from 勤王 (“to devote to the king”), from Classical Chinese 勤王 (qínwáng), a word dated back to pre-Qin-Shi-Huang times, hence "king" rather than "emperor". Compare Japanese 勤皇 (kinnō, “devotion to the emperor”) and Japanese 勤王 (kinnō, “devotion to the king”).
