Etymology

Originally called the planes of the head, the model eventually became known as the Asaro head within the art world, named after the model's creator, artist John Asaro.

(art) A three-dimensional simplified, geometric sculpture of the human head used by artists to understand how light and shadow fall on facial planes; a method of revealing volume and form for more realistic drawing and painting, rather than just copying features; breaks the complex head shape into flat, angular surfaces.
