Etymology
Borrowed from Ancient Greek ἀελλόπος (aellópos, “very quick; lightning fast”), from Ancient Greek ἀελλᾰ́ς (aellắs, “storm”) + Ancient Greek πούς (poús, “foot”).
Coined by German entomologist Jacob Hübner in 1819.
