Possibly related to the third person plural verbal subject prefix ku-, k-. Compare also Navajo -ké, Dena'ina -qa, with a similar function and semantic range.

    łicʼae (dog) + ‎-kaey → ‎łiʼkaey (dogs)
    ciił (male, young man) + ‎-kaey → ‎ciłkaey (young men)
