Possibly related to the third person plural verbal subject prefix ku-, k-. Compare also Navajo -ké, Dena'ina -qa, with a similar function and semantic range.

    ‎łicʼae (“dog”) + ‎-kaey → ‎łiʼkaey (“dogs”)
    ‎ciił (“male, young man”) + ‎-kaey → ‎ciłkaey (“young men”)
