From Proto-Athabaskan *tɬ’it’ (“liquid or granular matter moves or splashes; to fart”).
Cognate root found in Ahtna tlʼiitʼ (“liquid or multiple objects move independently; fart”), Lower Tanana tl'it (“to fart”).
Also occur in Navajo with the meaning “to limber up, to rest up”, of uncertain derivation.
