  1. Deverbal suffix, added to a verb root to form adjectives describing something prone to, purposed for, described by or characterized by the verb action)
    ਬੱਝ (bajjha, bound) + ‎-ਵਾਂ (-vā̃) → ‎ਬੱਝਵਾਂ (bajjhavā̃, steady, fixed, bound (of an amount))
    ਟੁੱਟ (ṭuṭṭa, break) + ‎-ਵਾਂ (-vā̃) → ‎ਟੁੱਟਵਾਂ (ṭuṭṭavā̃, piecemeal)
    ਫੇਰ (pher, move, turn) + ‎-ਵਾਂ (-vā̃) → ‎ਫੇਰਵਾਂ (phervā̃, movable, turnable)

Etymology 2

    Inherited from Prakrit -𑀫 (-ma) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit -म (-ma). Ultimately an Indo-Iranian innovation based off analogy. See *aštamás for more. Cognate with Persian ـم.
