Borrowed from Sanskrit -त्री (-trī), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *-triH, from Proto-Indo-European *-trih₂, a feminine derivative from *-tḗr. Equivalent to -ता (-tā, agent noun suffix) + -ई (-ī, feminine suffix). Compare Latin -trīx and Ancient Greek -τρια (-tria).
