From the Proto-Slavic *-slavъ ending in names such as *Voldislavъ, from Proto-Slavic *slava (“glory, fame”).
Via PIE cognate with Ancient Greek κλέος (kléos), κλειτός (kleitós), κλυτός (klutós), note many personal names derived from the terms.
Compare typologically Ancient Greek personal names derived from φωνή (phōnḗ) (< Proto-Indo-European *bʰeh₂-).
