Found in a single verb base and several derived nouns in Navajo. From Proto-Athabaskan *ʔəɬ (“conifer needle”). Compare Ahtna ʼeł (“spruce bough”), ʼełggadeʼ (“spruce needles”) and Carrier diʼil (“to have needles”).
