Etymology

Borrowed from Bengali জুল কিফল (jul kiphol), from Arabic ذُو الْكِفْل (ḏū l-kifl). From ذُو (ḏū, β€œowner”) and كِفْل (kifl, β€œlot, portion, share”): "He who possesses the lot." The meaning of this is unclear. First attested in the Quran (at 21:85 and 38:48).
