𑀀𑁂𑀔𑀒𑀺

Ashokan Prakrit

Etymology

Inherited from Sanskrit *ΰ€¦ΰ₯‡ΰ€•ΰ₯ΰ€·ΰ€€ΰ€Ώ (*dekαΉ£ati), somehow related to the root ΰ€¦ΰ₯ƒΰ€Άΰ₯ (dαΉ›Ε›).[1]

    Turner suggests that -e- developed from analogy with Sanskrit ΰ€ͺΰ₯ΰ€°ΰ₯‡ΰ€•ΰ₯ΰ€·ΰ₯‘ΰ€€ΰ₯‡ (prΓ©kαΉ£ate, β€œto see”), which is from ΰ€ͺΰ₯ΰ€°ΰ₯‡ΰ€•ΰ₯ΰ€·ΰ₯ (prekαΉ£, β€œto look, regard”), a compound of ΰ€ͺΰ₯ΰ€°- (pra-) + ΰ€ˆΰ€•ΰ₯ΰ€·ΰ₯ (Δ«kαΉ£, β€œto see, look”).
