Etymology
Sino-Korean word from 八 (“eight”) + 寸 (“degree of kinship”). A degree of kinship is the relationship between a parent and a child; see more at 촌(寸) (chon). In Korean culture, this is the least related person who is still considered a relative who cannot be married.
