Etymology

    Sino-Korean word from 辯護士 (“lawyer, solicitor, counsel, attorney, barrister”), an orthographic borrowing from Japanese 弁護士(べんごし) (bengoshi). Cognate with Jeju 벤호사 (benhosa), Hakka 辯護士 / 辩护士 (phien-fu-sṳ), and Min Nan 辯護士 / 辩护士 (piān-hō͘-sū, piǎn-hō͘-sǐr).
