Usage notes

  • An uppercase form is unattested, as the letter does not occur in word-initial position. Nevertheless, it was encoded as part of Unicode 17.0 in September of 2025.[1] The justification provided was to allow words containing the lowercase letter to be included in journal titles set in all caps.[2] The following hypothetical journal title was given as an example:
    MARKING SHORT VOWELS IN THE ORMULUM: ǷIÞÞ AND ǷI꟒; TROǷǷÞE AND TRO꟔ÞE
