Etymology

Established during the Qin and Han Dynasties, the name was changed to 門下省 after the Jin Dynasty. Responsible for proofreading imperial edicts which were drafted in the name of the emperor.

Usage notes

During the Eastern Han Dynasty, this position was filled exclusively by eunuchs. As a result, 黃門 eventually became another word for eunuch.
