Etymology

Compound of 突(つ)き (tsuki, 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 突(つ)く (tsuku, “to poke, push, prod, ram”)) + 伏(ふ)す (fusu).
